Tips for Beauty Industry Success

Two things that will get you ahead when starting out as a Stylist.

Effort – Your Success depends on YOU! The struggle is real. Growing technical skills in a real-time environment is at the very least, a bit like learning to swim with sharks. It is important to remember everyone starts out somewhere. Keep in mind you chose to learn with the best and it will take you some time and hard work to get as your trainers.

The nervous energy swelling up is a good barometer for how successful you want to be. Don’t let it scare you off your course. Harness the opportunity to know when to sharpen your focus and utilize the wisdom of the experts with whom you work. You can absolutely expect to get out of this opportunity what you put into it.

Imagine that you are standing in front of an all inclusive buffet of skills, technology, information, and opportunity. Now, right now, the choice is yours. Consider the possibilities. Fill your plate. Go ahead, take as much as you can carry.

But, realize you must actually take it in to get the benefits.

Each of these flavors of enrichment will depend on how you “digest” it. See it, Try it & Do it! Apply the skills you witness. Get good at them all. Do a lot of models. Make these new skills available to your clients. Grow your client bases.

Get your chair busy! The sooner the better!!! Learn the products available in your business.

Connect your client’s needs to the solutions on your menu and shelves. It is important as professionals to do more than just be great artists. Consider the difference between Customer Satisfaction and Customer Success. When we focus only on whether our customer is satisfied, we need only determine if they like what we have artistically created for them. Moreover, successful professionals keep a constant awareness of their Customer’s Success. Think about it, the client never sits down and asks for a service that only has benefits for time of the appointment. Every service we offer is originally sought for benefits outside of the time spent with the professional.

This is where “Service” comes into play.

Great consultations reveal the clues to great prescriptions. Outcomes aligned with lifestyle and finances paired with the right products and know-how yield referrals and requests. Too many times the word service is applied to only the physical nature of our work. And, even then only as it related to the benefit of our clients.

Remember, there is a win in it for you, too! Develop your Service skills to mirror your Artistic techniques. And, exercise both every chance you can make. Study. This is a-once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. If you do it right the first time you will never have to do it again! That being said, it is adult education. You will be the master of your own fate. But take care to apply good study skills to more than just your textbook. Learn the Industry lingo from your mentor. Get fluent in the trends upcoming and outgoing. Build a diverse “toolbox” of technical skills. Learn to do everything in multiple ways. Count it a blessing to have a cornucopia of learning experiences.
